Passionate about consciousness
I am Associate Professor in Philosophy at Central European University in Budapest (a unique and wonderful institution).
My main research focus is trying to explain how the brain produces consciousness. I think we need to radically rethink our understanding of matter in order to explain consciousness, in something like the way Einstein radically rethought the nature of space and time.
Perhaps the best way to find out about my 'big picture' is to watch the first two (short) lectures on the video section of this website: In the first I outline the problem of consciousness, in the second I outline my preferred solution. My first book 'Consciousness and Fundamental Reality' will be published with Oxford University Press this June.
I also have a sideline in political philosophy, focusing on issues pertaining to taxation, globalisation and social justice.
Most of the publications on this website are aimed at academic philosophers, and hence are not very accessible to non-specialists. My blog (linked to below) is aimed at a wider audience. I am currently working on a book aimed at a general audience.
Central European University is a US-style graduate school, accredited in Hungary and US. We have internationally recognised expertise in philosophy of mind, students from all over the world (Europe, US, China, Africa...) and generous scholarships for MA and PhD. And most importantly Budapest is a beautiful city!!!
