In Our Time, BBC Radio 4

I participated in an episode on panpsychism on what is perhaps the UK's most prestigious science/culture/arts/ideas show In Our Time, with Melvyn Bragg.

BBC TODAY PROGRAMME

Philip Pullman and I were interviewed on the consciousness, panpsychism and the philosophy of His Dark Materials on the BBC's flagship radio news show. Unfortunately the recording is no longer available.

ME, ZIZEK, & NEW ATHEISM

Fascinating discussion of the relation between my book Why? The Purpose of the Universe, Zizek and the new atheists, on the awesome Philosophize This! podcast.

BBC RADIO 3 FAITH, MEANING, AND DANIEL DENNETT

I was privileged to appear on the BBC Radio 3 show 'Free Thinking' to discuss my book Why? The Purpose of the Universe. Daniel Dennett was also on the episode, and we debated fine-tuning a little bit.

LBC INTERVIEW WITH TOM SWARBRICK

This was an interview on Tom Swarbrick's show on LBC, a major radio station based in London.

NEWSTALK ON IRISH NATIONAL RADIO

I had a fun, light-hearted chat with Sean Moncrieff. Unfortunately the recording doesn't seem to be available anymore.

CBC (Canadian National Broadcaster)

Episod e of the CBC show 'Ideas' on my work on consciousness and panpsychism.

PHILOSOPHY BITES

In this episode of the excellent Philosophy Bites podcast, I explain how Galileo created the problem of consciousness, and how we can solve it.

BBC RADIO 3 'FREE THINKING'

This was a really great discussion/debate with myself, my comrade-in-arms Hedda Hassel Morch, skeptical neuroscientist Daniel Glaser, and deep ecologist Eccy de Jonge.

BBC RADIO 4 'THE MORAL MAZE'

On this episode of 'The Moral Maze', I argued that taxation is not theft.

MINDSCAPE PODCAST WITH SEAN CARROLL

This is my first discussion with the physicist Sean Carroll. We subsequently debated for 6 hours on my podcast Mind Chat, and then met in person for a feisty campus debate, which you can find on the 'Conversations' section of the 'Videos' section of this website.

'GALILEO'S ERROR' ON THE PANPSYCAST

The Panpsycast is one of the best UK philosophy podcasts (it's actually nothing to do with panpsychism...). Here's an episode in which I discuss my book Galileo's Error : Part I and Part II.

MIND F*CKERY

This was a light-hearted and fun interview I did on the Australian podcast 'The You Project.'

CAN YOU BE A BELIEVER THAT DOESN'T BELIEVE?

Here is my debate on whether religion makes sense without literal belief, with conservative Christian Kristi Mair, for the Unbelievable podcast.

DIGGING DEEPER ON RELIGION WITHOUT BELIEF

Here's a more in depth discussion on the 'religion without belief' topic, with one of my favourite podcast host's Emerson Green on his Counterapologetics podcast.

CAN SCIENCE EXPLAIN CONSCIOUSNESS?

This one is a more in depth exploration of the cutting edge of the consciousness debate in academic philosophy. I am in discussion with David Papineau (Professor of Philosophy at KCL) on the 'Panpsycast' podcast (which is actually not a podcast about panpsychism). David and I have polar opposite views - I am a panpsychist and he is a physicalist - but we have developed our views in discussion with each other. It ended up being a three-parter, which you can access here, here, and here.

THE WORST THINGS THAT HAVE EVER BEEN SAID ABOUT ME ONLINE!

A few of our undergrads interviewed me in my office, including reading out the worst things that have ever been said about me online.

PRIVATE LANGUAGE ARGUMENT DEBATE

Wittgenstein's 'private language argument' is intended to show that private mental concepts are incoherent, in which case my entire approach to consciousness is confused. I debated the private language argument with my former colleague and good friend Hanoch Ben-Yami back in 2016. Here's a blog post I wrote after the debate, which contains a recording of the debate itself.
